144000 virgins and 3 angels
Chapter 14 of the Revelation of St John is something of an interval between the descriptions of how things are and what is shortly to happen as the earth itself is judged. It presents the image of the 144,000 'virgins', who follow the 'Lamb' (Jesus Christ) wherever he goes. In this lecture we look into what is meant by 'virginity' in the sense of how it is used here. The keys to understanding this are provided by medieval alchemy, which was used as a secret code to conceal esoteric teachings and thereby avoid persecution by the church. The story then moves on the discussion of Babylon as a harlot and why this city in particular was picked out as especially evil and in need of punishment.
