What's up there

Genuine Philosophy should provide us with guidance if not exact for three, crucial questions. These are 'what am I?', 'who made me?' and 'what am I for?'. How these answers are framed will depend very much on the culture of the times. This, in turn, is determined by certain assumptions or paradigms that express a collective view that is shared by the people of that culture. For nearly sixteen hundred years, the cultural viewpoint of Western Civilization was essentially Christian in origins. That changed with the so-called 'Enlightenment', which gave birth to the world as we know it today. In this lecture we examine this change and what it really means for us as humans struggling to know ourselves and our place in the universe.
